CARLO NASON
Artist / Designer / Technician / Realizer

Born in 1935 into a glass making family that leaved for many generations on Murano, Carlo started his engagements at around 20 years of age – the factory of his father was right there to get acquainted with the structure of work and experimentation.

His works of the period in the 1950s were famous and are still displayed in the collections of the Corning Museum in New York.

By then successful productions were made for V. Nason & C and in the 1970s for the Vetreria A.V.Mazzega as he discovered his passion for designing lamps – he had found the producer who opened for him a lot of freedom for expression. He liked experimenting with many different techniques. He also got awards for his photographs and participated in several exhibitions. In 2015 – his 80th birthday – he was invited by the Triennale of Milan to exhibit a selection of his major designs.

His lamps became renowned for form, shape and material – not least for the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Later on, he worked with several leading producers like Vistosi, I Tre, Murano2 and also as adviser with the Austrian firm Kalmar.

Design was his passion so he also developed a synthetic prototype for a ski-boot for Garmont or ceramics for Baldelli or perfume flacons for fashion designers. He is a master in creating plain, clean and translucent objects.

Unfortunately, Carlo’s famous lamps are rarely available in the secondary market.
